A cablegram received by the New Zealand Shipping Company states that tho steamer Otaki, which left Wellington for London on April 28, made a call at Monte Video on Weduesday last. May 18. THE SYDNEY STEAMER. This week's Sydney steamer—the Union Company's Moeraki—left Sydney for Wellington at 3.40' p.m. on Saturday. She should accordingly arrive here early on Wednesday morning. FOR LONDON. The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company's Tokomaru is to leave Wellington for Loudon to-day." The Rangatira, of the same liue, will leave later in the week. The New Zealand Shipping Company's Opawa sails from this port for London to-mor-row. She goc3 via Rio de Janeiro. RIMUTAKA AT PLYMOUTH. Advice has been received announcing tho arrival at Plymouth of the New Zealand Shipping Company's R.M.S. Rimutaka. The steamer left Wellington on April 8, and reached Plymouth on Thursday last. May 19. DELPHIC FROM LIVERPOOL. The steamer Delphic which arrived on Friday evening from Liverpool was berthed on Saturday morning at No. 16 Jervois, Quay. In this issue the local agents insert a notice to consignees of cargo by the vessel. ! INOI'A LINE'S LATEST. Advices have come to hand intimating that tho new Indra liner, which is to en- | tcr the Australian trade under the auspices of the Tyser Line, will be ready in I September nrxt. She has been named I Imlraharah, and, according to all noi counts, will ho a particularly fine stamp I of vessel. [ It is understood that Captain Trotter, of ■ the liulralema, will transfer to the new I steamer Indradeo, when the Indraloma reaches Home this trip. Captain A. Holi lingj-worth, late of the Indradevl, will then transfer to the Indralcnia. Captain it. P. I Craven has transferred from the ImlrnI ghlri to the Iwlradcvl, ami Captain W. H Wilkes has assumed command of the InI draghlrl.
On Saturday, the Tyser liner Norehaua, from London, left Auckland in continuation of her voyage to Rapier anil Wellington.
From the New Zealand and African Steamship Company we have received a copy of tho second of the "Great Outposts of tho Empire." The book, which is published in neat form, gives much interesting information concerning the parts of the world thai may be visited in vessels of the F.-H.-S. Line.
Captain A. M. Edwin, of the Kaitangata, arrived from the south yesterday by the Maori. He is on holiday leave.
In. connection with tho grounding pf the Queen of the South' at Foxton last week, a preliminary inquiry will be held by the Collector of Customs at 2 p.m. today. The steamer was placed on the Patent Slip on Saturday for examination.
A very smart performance was registered by the Tyger liner Star of Scot : land, while loading in the Wanganui Roadstead last week. The vessel arrived there from Lyttelton at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, and after taking in cargo sailed at midnight on Thursday for Wellington, being thus only 31 hours in the roadstead. During that time ten lighter trips were made to the big vessel, and the following 'is a. list of cargo shipped:—323s carcasses mutton, 4374 carcasses lambi 1040 quarters beef, 243 crates pieces mutton, six crates kidneys, 386 casks tallow and pelts, 20 casks sausage casings, and 173 bales of wool.
Captain A. Carson, ,of tho Rakanoa, will transfer to the Rotoiti to-morrow. _ Mr. J. C. Ross, late of the Kurow, is chief officer of the Rotoiti. Messrs. W. J. Gibson, W. A. Kelly, and E. W. Mackley will be the engineers on the Rotoiti.
.Captain E. R. Stewart, who has been on holiday leave, will take chargc of the Rakanoa at Auckland to-day, relieving Captain Carson.
Mr. D. Bonnie joined tlie Flora on Sat-urday-as third engiucer.
Mr. White-Parsons, chief officer of the Moana, has joined the Kini as actingmaster, relieving Captain Platts, who is on leave. Mr. F. S. Home has joined the Kamona as chief ouiccr.
Mr. A. H. Brookes, third officer of the Koromiko, has been appointed acting-sec-ond of the! Kamona, Mr. Evans, of the Kamona, been transferred to tho Whangape. Mr. M. Campbell left the Whangape at Lyttelton in order to sit for. examination for his master's certificate.
The new steamer of similar design to the Marama, which is being built for the Union Company's intercolonial service, is to be delivered in time for the next summer passenger season.
When the French barque Jacques left Lyttelton for Falmouth yesterday she was fully loaded, and had under hatches 27,006 sacks of wheat, representing 2450 tons dead weight. It is stated that the vessel is receiving a freight rato of £1 per ton.
