May 22, 5 p.m.) London, May 21. ; Fifteen racehorses and steeplechasers, in training at Henley, escaped from a meadow, being frightened by a motor-car. The terrified and maddened animals rushed tnrough Purley, Croydon, and Streatham. A tramcar. killed one of them. The pleasures of a cosy home are not complete without those toothsomo delicacies which are tho handicraft of a ciever cook. The homo cookery section at tho National Dairy Show specially prorides classes for the many who are ikilful in making bread, soones, toffee, plain and fancy cakcs, and tho rewards offered are quite substantial for each class, with a handsome most points prize of .C 2 2s. Quite out of the common is the easy conditions for showing bottled fruits and prtserves, the whole section is made up of ono and up to three bottles in different classes, with very acceptable prizes of 10s. for first,prize and ss. for second prize. A points' prize of ■£l,ls. goes to the winner in this section. The home department at the National Dairy Show is always a popular one. The judge this year is Mr. J. Godber, of Wellington. A list of tho prizes may be obtained by writing to the secretary, Mr. J. 0. Lane, Palmerston North.
