CITY MOTOR CAR ACCIDENT.
SERIOUS INJURY. Yesterday afternoon, a married woman, Mrs. Emily Head, wife of Mr. Michael Head, general dealer, 61 Hajisen Street, was knocked down by a motor-car, and seriously injured. It appears that at about' 2.15 yesterday afternoon a number of passengers were waiting on tho footpath, at tho junction of Renins Street and Adelaide ■Road, to board tho tram bound from Newt-own to tho city. Amongst the ■ knot of peoplo wero Mr. and Mrs. Head, and as the tram approached they, in company with the other people, stopped off tho footpath to board the tramcar.
Just as tho car was coining down the lino, a motor-car approached from tho other direction, and Mrs. Head hesitated, and subsequently stopped tack, as though she had decided to return to tho footpath. Whilst matters wove in this position, she was struck by tho lamp of tho automobile, and foil in front of the car, apparently sustaining additional hurt. The oar was pulled up quickly, and Mrs. Head was extricated, carried into Dr. Boworbanks's surgery, closo by tho scene of the accident, and attended by Drs. Bowcrbank and Hogg. She was subsequently removed to tho hospital, where- it was found that she had had her spine severely injured. Other serious injuries were- also apparent, tho case generally being regarded a somewhat critical one.
