HOCKEY.
THE MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE. A special meeting of the Management Committee of tho Wellington Hockey Association was held last evening. There was a full attendance of members, Mr. W. Qrgau presiding. The Karori Borough Council's offer of two grounds for the season at a rental of £15 was accepted. It was agreed to allow tho Ladies' Hockey Association the use of grounds at a cost of £25 for the season. The Wellington Football Association desired to wait upon the Reserves Committee at the council regarding the postponement of matches; and at their request Messrs. Organ, Bennett, and Luckie will join tho deputation as representing the Hockey Association. The meeting agreed to send a team to play Manawatu—a return match—at Palmerston North on Friday, June 3.
The question of maintenance of the Day's Bay grounds came up for- discussion, and the chairman and secretary were appointed to deal with the matter and make satisfactory arrangements. A sub-oommittce, consisting of Messrs. Organ, Bennett, and Walton, was appointed to go into the matter of suggested alterations of the rules of the New Zealand Hockey Association. Notice was received from tho N.Z.H.A. that T. Goodman, Richmond, Nelson, has beon disqualified for twelve months for insulting a referee; also that the disqualification had been removed in the caso of T. Wall (Mana-' watu Association).
Tho Wellington Football Association complaincd that hockey players participating in games at Kelburne Park encroached upon the ground set apart For "soccer." The letter was received.
Tho Wairarapa Association wrote askingi Wellington to co-operate with them in regard to urging tho advisability of transferring headquarters of the New Zealand Hockey Association from Christchurch to Wellington. The meeting decided not to' take any action in the matter at present.. Various letters from challenging associations for the shield were received, asking for dates on which they are to play their match with Wellington—including one from Auckland and one from Hawke's Bay. After discussion June 25 was fixed for tho Hawke's Bay shield match. This will he the first match decided. It was decided to hold a trial match locally on .Tune 18. • A sub-committee consisting of Messrs. Walton, L'.ickie, and Organ was appointed to deal fully with the application of tho Wednesday Association for affiliation (as a sub-association) with the Saturday, .Association. _ Tho Referees' Association desired to be allowed representation on the Hockey Association. The mooting declined to make a definite promise at present. The matter will have to be brought before tho next annual meeting. Tho Metropolitan Club protested against the third-class match, versus Wellington, being recorded as a draw, on the grounds .that the latter team had included a non-registered player. As no name was mentioned, the meeting allowed the matter to drop. Tho first round of senior matches will bo concluded before the shield matches are oommenced, on June 25. Dates for the remaining shield matches will be arranged at a later meeting of tho Management Committee. Mr. H. V. Walton, the selector, was appointed manager of tho representative team which is to play against Manawatu on June 3.
