MORE DAIRY FACTORIES.

MAN IT NEW ■ PROJECTS AFOOT. . The splendid' dairying season now closing has given great heart to producers, and many projects are afoot for new dairy factories.'. Looking 1 over the files of TitE Dominion since the beginning of April it is found that reference has' been made to no fewer than seventeen different dairy proposals. Meetings are being held all over the country, and though a percentage will lead to no definite result, many.have already .been followed registration of companies, and there can be no doubt that the new season will see another big move ahead in the dairying industry. ' - - Here are a few of the districts where factories or creameries are proposed:—Cororanridel (Auckland),.. Rotorua, Clive (Hawke's Bay), Waipawa,' Waipukurau, Kaiparoro (Ekctahuua), Carrington Estate (Wairarapa), Canvastown (Marlborough), The Grove (liarlborough), Ash-, burton and four , creameries, ' Balfour (Southland),' and Lochiel : (Southland). These arc all projects to which reference has happened to be made in..this paper in the -past six weeks or so, and there are numbers of others which have not come into notice during that' period. PROMISES FOR GIFT AUCTION. Tho monthly meeting of tho general committee of the Manawatu A. and P. Association was held.yesterday (telegraphs our correspondent). In the absence of the president, Mr. C. A. J. Levett, who is laid up with an attack of bronchitis, Mr. W.. F. -Jacob was voted to the chair. There was a good attendance of members. Correspondence was, read from Mr. Matliiesou, of Matiri, Nelson, asking for information about co-operative stock-sell-ing among farmers, and for rules for running a small show. The secretary was instructed to send the information asked for. The secretary df the Wellington Racing Club wrote stating that, a grant of .£25 liad been made to the association's prize list for events calculated to encourage Hie breeding of horses. Sir. I'. S. M'Rao stated that tho Horse Schedule Committee had allotted the ,£25 . to three classes, thoroughbred mare and stallion, and mare calculated to breed steeplechase horses, ft .was decided to send a letter of thanks to tho Wellington Racing Club, also an account of how the money was to be used. The Government Supervisor of Field Experiment, Mr. G. do S. Baylis, sent in a list of new varieties of cereals which he was desirous of testing in various part? of tho North Island. They were: Three varieties of oats, specially imported i'rom Svalof, in Sweden; Olio winter from the same source; five varieties of wheats from Canada, recommended by Mr. Chas." E. Saunders, , Cercaljst to the Dominion of Canada; two varieties of barleys Irjm Sweden for spring sowing; one variety of spring wheat from Svalof, in S>Mileii; two varieties of winter wheat irrnn Svalof, in Sweden. There were also some Australian varieties. The matter wan referred to tho committee which had previously been set up in connection with farm experiments. Mr. J. Sweeney's suggestion that judges for the horse-jumping events should be selected from the South- Island or (he Auckland district was referred to the Horse Schedule Committee, with a recommendation that the suggestion should be given effect to. Messrs. Ellis Bros., of Bulls, wrote igitin in connection with their offer of a prize for a horse-shoeing competition at the spring show. ■ After discussion it .was decided to" hold the matter over till next meeting, so that more information could be obtained as to the probable cost of carrying it out. Mr. T. R. Hodder, chairman of the Special Building Committee, read iho report of that committee. The committee was set up to devise means of raising funds for completing the housing accommodation for horses, sheep, itiiil pigs. The report suggested that a specially-drafted', circular should .be issued,. with the object of increasing the membership. Mr. J. ' G. Harknpss had suggested that a small.' committee should be 'set up in Wellington to canvass the city for members, and Mr. Hodder thought tho suggestion an excellent one. , Jf-tfas further proposed to hold a gift auction, and the following donations hnrl already been received:—A. P. Levitt, cattle; S. L. Lancaster, Jersey heifer; J. A. M'Crea, Jersey bull; .T.-A. M'Kelvie. hprsej H. Gillies bullock"; Hodder. ton of manure. Mr. R. Tanner had also offered a purebred ram, and it i , . wore not sold he offered to give its value, twenty guineas. The report was adopted. The reports of the Kennel Club, Horse Schedule, Dairy Show, and Dairy Cattlo Committees were read and adopted. Tho latter committee recommended that the. champion butter-fat competition be continued on tho Rime lines as 'the previous year. It was decided iilso to award a gold medal to the winning cow in this competition. The following new members were elected;— Messrs. M. Henagan, E. Speedy,'anil J. Doarlovo (Stoney Creek), J. Tait (Kelvin Grove), C. T. Goyno (Pal-
