. UANAWATU RUGBY UNION. Mr. B. D. Hobon '(president) occupied the chair at tho weekly meeting of the Management Committee of the Manawatu Rugby Union this week. The Daunevirke Sub-union of Hawke's Bay wrote asking for a representative match, anil it' was decided to ofl'er a game: against Palmerston clubs on Juno 4, at' Palmerston. ! Oroua -Sub-union also asked for a match, and it was resolved to endeavour to .'arrange such with Feilding on June 4. Messrs. Manning, Pirnni, and Pawson were appointed a Postponement Committee. . Messrs. Pirani and Muller, delegates to tho N.Z.11.U., reported on the proceedings at tho annual mooting of tiiat body,' and were accorded votes of thanks for their services. A considerable , amount of discussion took place on the question of boundaries of sub-unions, two representatives of the Oroua Sub-union " (Messrs. Pratt and Stackhonse) being present, to prote.-.t against the suggested boundaries. It was eventually decided to nsk the Oroua Subunion to consider the question of boundaries, and report, to the Management Committee, if it is advisable to define such. . ' AN .INSURANCE .SCHEME. (By Telegraph— Special Correspondent.! • i Wanganui, May 17. The Wanganui Rugby Union last night discussed the question of establishing an insurance, scheme, and resolved that a fund be inaugurated. A levy of 2s. Gd. is to be made on all playing members of each club, payablo by June 20 at latest, the money to be expended in the interests of injured subscribing players, as the Management Committee from time to time think fit. No definite scale of eom■pensation was fixed or any details gone !into. The idea is to get (he scheme started, and if supported by players and the public, then the fund should soon reach, a sum which would_ put it on a sound practical basis. . With the idea of supplementing the fund, in addition to the levy mentioned above, it was decided to call a conference of three delegates from each affiliated club for the purpose of devising ways and means of raising an additional sum of money for insurance purposes, the delegates to formulate a scheme, to be submitted to a meeting of the Management Committee on May, 30. As Gregg's junior team has been withdrawn, teams drawn to play Gregg's will count a win bv default. Matches unplaced on May 7 will be played at the «nd of round or as otherwise arranged. BOXING. The recently-formed Palmerston Amateur Boxing Club gave its honorary members an exhibition on Monday evening of the progress made during the few weeks -the club has been in existence. The president, Dr. O'Brien, presided, and spoke of the. hearty support which tho club was receiving, it being recognised that it wis a good tiling to spread a knowledge of the manly art of selfdefence. . ■ • ■ . Mr. I.- J. Fake supervised the programme, which was a most enjoyable one, and. included a number of really good boxing : bouts, most of tho well-known local amateurs being ' present. . There *-ere also exhibitions of skipping and club-swingifig, with musical items.
