OTAKI NOTES.
At the last meeting of the Horowhenna County Council, the tender of I'rasev Bros., at IBs. per chain, was accepted for the felling of bush on the Otaki Gorgo Road, while for forming and binding tho Waikanae Beach Road the tender of A. A, Brown, at 19s. 6d. per chain, and metalling at 3s. Gd. per yard, was accepted. The engineer was instructed to embody, in his monthly reports a statement as to the sanitary condition of railway, school,, and hotel lavatories, slaughterhouses, piggeries, creeks, household, and other, drains. It was resolved that an estimate bo prepared by tho as to the cos' of tho proposed extension of the Otaki Gorge Road from the Forks. It M-a?, decided to strike the following rates: Tokomaru, general, 2-3 d. in the separate, l-15d. in tho ,£;.\Yirokino, i-Sd. laud l-15d.: Otaki, 3-1(1. and l-15d.; To lloro, l-12d. and 1-13(1.; all upon the capital values of all the rateable properties !in the .respective ridings! The Rev. Sir. Smith wrote drawing attention to stock being allowed to roam tho roads. On account of the King's death, all hockey matches for to-day have been postponed". This information only readied local clubs yesterday, and the dilatorinesa of (lie association is being criticised. Mr. Satherley, who has been off duty as constable for Otaki for several months on account of illness, is likely ;o resume duty at an early date. During his absence Constable S'naw. of Wellington, lias looked well after the town. There is now n probability, however, of an assistant constable being appointed here, it being geuerally agreed that the district is far too largo for one man to supervise.
