NOTES AND COMMENTS.
£Bv Glkncoe.) The Takapuna Jockey Club's meeting commences on Saturday next. Tho meeting has some interest for Wellington followers of the sport from the fact that Trugauini and Magneto will be competing ou Saturday, while Advantage has been taken up for tho second day's racing. Magneto is said to be very well at present, and both the other candidates no doubt satisfied Lowe with their, (rank work before they wero railed north. The name of Lady Athlyne has been claimed for the filly by St. Alwynno from Pollio. Playmate will be the Porirua representative in the Century Hurdles at Wunganui. Millpoud will probably make tho trip, and be a starter in tho Hack Hurdles. The fact that El Dorado has not been accepted ,for in tho Great Northern Hurdle Race may perhaps mean that a trip to Australia has been planned for the Greenmeadows horse. Word from the north states that Feu de Join has gone wrong, and will not bo a starter at any of the meeting!" in the immediate future. Mischief (Birkenhead—Miss Never) carried 9st. 81b. lo victory in a six furlongs race at Brjsbano on May 7. It appears as if the. oivner of Penates is confident that his horse can stay out a, mile and a quarter race, as ho has again entered him for a race over'•'■his distance, viz., the Kaukawa Cup. A movement is on foot to form a mo-' ing club at Pahautanui, and if it should prove successful an application will be made to the Minister for Internal Affairs for permission to hold a meeting on tho Pahautanui Beach. Years ago meeting? were held on tho beach there, and also at Porirna, and it is stated that a good seven-furlongs track can be obtained at Pahautanui at tho present time, Some little time ago a statement appeared in this column to the effect that Lady Medallist was to be treated to a spell after the Marlborough meeting, and since then statements have been published locally to. the effect that the St. Alwynno filly) would bo a starter' at tho Wanganui meeting this month. As late as yesterday,, however, Mr. J. H. Prosser, iu whoso nomination Lady Medallist races, informed a Dominion representative that the filly would not make tho trip to Wangauui. She is being spelled. It is not unusual to read of some amateur rider greatly distinguishing himself at a picnic meeting (says the Sydney "Referee"), but if the telegraphic accounts are perfectly correct, Mr. H. Blomfield's performance at tho Bligh A.E.C. meeting (Mudgee) is deserving of special mention. On the first day his six mounts resulted in four firsts, a second, and a third; but on the second day ho improved upon that by scoring fivo wins and a second for six mounts. Nino nini, two seconds, and a third for twelve mounts is a record any rider might be proud of. Six of Mr. Blomfield's wins 'were on .Mr. J. M. Allison's horses. On (he second day this owner named won each of the five races in which ho was represented, i • ■ • FIXTURES. May 21 and J.C. Winter. May 21 and 25.—North Otago J.C. Winter. May 2-1 and 26.—Wangauui J.C. Winter..
