The above illustration- gives the relative course of the comet and the earth from May 16, 1909, to July 29, 1910. It should be noted that the points in tho diagram where it enters and eaves tho earths orbit are not •ts nearest approaches to the earth,, a though they .appear to be so. Th? comet's position on May 10, shown in the diagram, is the point whore it is nearest the earth. The distance given is 10,000,000 miles, which, if the prediction is correct, will mean, that it will not approach within 5,000,000 miles as close this visit as on tho visit of 1835.
