PETONE BOROUGH COUNCIL.

A REVALUATION. The fortnightly meeting of the Petone Borough Council, held last evening, was attended by the Mayor (Mr. J. W. M'Ewan), Councillors Short, Harding, Southgate, Piper, Young, List, Jones, and Truenian. The Valuation Department notified that a revaluation of the borough was now being made. ■ The council were asked for the nomination of some person to act on the Assessment Court. The council decided to appoint Mr. H. Findlay as their representative on the Court.' The secretary of the Hutt Park' Committee wrote that Councillor Colquhoun, the Petone representative on the committee, had not attended a meeting since October last. The Minister for Justice replied to the council's representations regarding the necessity for the erection of a courthouse in the borough," that the Government was considering the matter. In reply to the complaint of the coun- , cil that the Stipendiary Magistrate had not been able to keep his appointment to preside at the monthly sitting of the Petone Court, the Minister for Justice wroto that the services of the magistrate had been required in Wellington on the day in question, and there did not appear to be reasonable ground for complaint. A letter was received from the Government Insurance Department, stating that, in regard to the loans of £2000. .£3OOO, and .£3OOO, which the borough had received from tho Department, the sinking fund deeds provided for annual payments of ,-621 19s. 5d., .£37 Os. Id., and £37 9s. Id., respectively, to the Publio Trustee as Sinking Fund Commissioner. The latter had notified, however, tha't no payments had been received by him on account of these, sinkijig funds. The Department therefore asked the council to explain why this was so, requesting them to pav forthwith the sums of £10G ss. Id., £117 4s. sd.,"and £117 4s. 5d., in order to bring the funds up to date.
