The funeral took place recently at Dairy Cemetery, Edinburgh, of William Hammond, formerly of the Scots Greys, who took part in the famous Balaclava charge. The deceased veteran, who (lied in the Edinburgh Boynl Infirmary, was a native of Wallyford. and enlisted in the Scots Greys in ISSO, and served with the regiment in l.lie Crimea and was in the charge of the Heavy Brigade. In this famous charge lie received a wound in the eye, which disabled him from further service. On his discharge in 1855 on' a pension, he went to Edinburgh, wheru he resided up till his death.
