(From Our Special Oorressondont) $ THE HARDHAM PRESENTATION. There was a very largo gathering at the Petone Drill Hall to do honour to W. J. .Hardham. Mr. J. W. M'Ewan (Mayor) presided. Among the maiiy present were tho captains of nearly all the football clubs of "Wellington. The proceedings took the form of a promenade concert and dance. Mr. MTiwan, in presenting Mr.. Hardham with an illuminated address, spoke highly of Mr. Hardham's good citizenship and loyalty to the local football club* Tho > Mayor then presented Mr. Hardham ■with the address, which read: To Lieutenant TV. Hardham, V.C. Dear Sir,—On behalf of your Petone friends interested in manly sports it is our privilege to present you with this address as a token of appreciation of the valuable services you have rendered. It is recorded that you joined the Petono Football Club in tho year 1896, and that you have continued to play up to • the present, except during the seasons of 1900, 1901, and 1902. when the Empire called you to South Africa, where you obtained tho distinguished honour of V.C. During your connection with the football club, and under your skilful guidance it has been singularly successful, having won the senior championships. The featunique in the history of football— that your club was proudest of was winning five championships in the season .of 1907. Of your prowess as a player, tho fact that you so often led the. club to victory and that you frequently represented Wellington speaks with no uncertain voice. In conclusion, we have to lay stress upon your example as an exponent of all that is clean and honourable in athletic sports, feeling assured that your example will bo productive of good and wishing you a long and prosperous life, we are, on behalf of tho citizens,

In connection with Dr. Henry's mission in Potone, a committee has been formed (which contains two representatives from overy church in the Hntt Valley) to carry out tho arrangements. The Rev. A. Thomson was chosen 'chairman of the committee, and tho Bevs. T. Williams and 11. Cottom joint secretaries. Tho local Drill Hall has been engaged, wheretho mission is to be held.

Tho members of tho Lower Hutt Fire Brigade intend to hold a card tournament in the station rooms next Wednesday ovoning. • Under tho auspices of tho Hntt Valley Socialists' Society, Dr. Borghotti delivered an address in the Potono Oddfellows' Hall. The speaker dealt at some length with "Scientific Socialism," going fully into tho details of tho subject to thn satisfaction of his andionce.

6» Saturday morning two young men were brought before Sir. R. N. Short at tho Petono Court, to answer a charge- of creating a breach of tho peaco in iTacltson Street. They were convicted and discharged.

Very successful anniversary services wcro hold at Petono Baptist Church yesterday. There were large congregations and good singing. Tho Rev. A. Dewdncy preached an able sormon in tho morning, and tho Rev. B. Harris conducted tho afternoon service, and spoko in interesting fashion on "Flowers." The Uev. ,T. J. North pvcachcil an impressive sermon at night on Matt. 11, 28-30. Tho anniversary services will bo continued on Wednesday with a tea and public meeting.
