NAVAL BASES. ' NEW ARTILLERY COMMANDER, By Telotrraph—Press Association—Oopyrlehf. Melbourne, May H. Tho Federal Cubinot proposes to deal with defence matters, including the ar-! rangement of naval bases, during the coining session of Parliament. Colonel Wallace (? Wallack) has been appointed to the supremo command of tho Eoyal Australian Artillery. [Col. E. T. Wallack, now 52 years of ago, hold various military commands in Tasmania from the year 1885 onward, including the command of tho Tnsmanian Permanent Artillery. After having the command of the Commonwealth military forces in Tasmania, and subsequently in South Australia, he was appointed in 1907 Deputy Adjutant-General of tho Commonwealth Military Forces. In tho meanwhile lie had s«n sorvieo in tho South African war, being Special Service Officer attached to the- stall's of the Rhodcsian Field Force and Fir.«.t Division; he was mentioned in dispatches, was made a C.8., nnil .received the Queen's medal with four clasps. In his earlier career he was n lieutenant in the 4tli Battalion of llio Jlidillivs-ox flpgiment.]
