Tates, who attempted l to establish a long-dis-tance balloon record, but who were subsequently discovered, wounded and unconscious, near Glasgow, Kentucky (the pair had started from Quincy, Illinois), are recovering. They reached an altitude of 2000 ft., They state thnt Halley's comet was ii gorgeous sight, there being an absence of terrestrial dust. The comet has a brilliant bead and a long veil-like phosphorescent tail.' Photographs of the visitor were taken.
Tho aeronauts suffered from want of oxygen. The final foil was from a height of 300 ft. Their lives wore saved by rnbber air mattresses in tho bottom of the basket of the balloon.
