The second consignment of chilled beef from Australia, shipped under the new system of storage, has arrived from Queensland in tho Royal Albert Dock, I after a voyage of sixty-seven days. The first shipment from Australia arrived in London, via the Cape, on November 22, a voyage of sixty-two days, being the first occasion on which chilled meat had ever been landed in England in good condition from the Commonwealth, although several provions attempts . had been made. The meat was brought by the s.s. Marathon, tho same vessel that has arrived with the second shipment, and price 9 up to lid. per lb. were realised for the best hindquarters. It is understood that tho present consignment has reached this country in similarly good condition, thus indicating that the experiment, so far, has been a success. Hitherto Australia and New Zealand have sent their beef in a frozen state, but as (here is a difference in_ value between chilled and frozen beef in London of about one penny per lb., it is", pointed out that once the present experiment is acknowledged to be the success claimed, the Australian meat companies :will decido in future to send tho bulk of their meat chilled.
