NATIONAL DAIRY SHOW.
COMMITTEE MEETING. A meeting of the National Dairy Show Committee (writes our Palmers ton correspondent) was held on Thursday afternooUj when" there were present Major Dunk (chairman), and Messrs. Johnston, Cohen, Lloyd, Pratt, Balsillio, M'Crea, Sutherland, M'Kenzie, M'llae, Hodder and Gibbons. Correspondence was read from Mr. J. Sweeney, thanking the committee for 'adopting his suggestions in regard io the conditions for the jumping competition. at the Dairy Show. He also suggested that judges for these events should be selected from the South Island, not that lie thought for one moment that judges appointed in the past had not given fair decisions, but he thought it would give moro satisfaction to competitors if his suggestion were adopted. It was decided-.to refer the latter suggestion to the general oommittee. ■
A letter from Messrs. Ellis Bros., of Feilding, in reference to a horse-shoeing competition was referred back to the general committee, as there was not sufficient time to arrange such an event for the winter show, and as it was also thought that it would be more suitable for the spring show.- • Correspondence was read from Mr. Alexander, director of Lincoln College, that he would be present at the show to judge the farm roots, and also referring to the football match between a team from the college and a Palmerston team.during the National Show week. The matter of entertaining the Lincoln College boys was left to the chairman and Mr. Pratt to arrange.' A discussion took place <on the question of a collegiate football tournament, but as there was not-sufficient time in which to arrange anything'of the kind for the coming show, Messrs.' Gibßons, M'Rae, and Pratt were, appointed to draft a scheme and submit;it to a future meeting. "- The Dairy Commissioner, Mr. Cuddie, wrote in reference to the judging of the butter exhibits at. the National Dairy ShoW, making various suggestions with which it was decided to .agree. It was decided to'hold sheep and pig finessing competitions .'during the show, Mr. R. Lloyd being appointed chief steward in charge of these.. I The,chairman: reportcjd.that the arrangements for the display of milking machines in actual work were progressing favourably. There would be five different makes of machine's at work. Other applications had been received, but these had had to be refused,because they had come in too late, and there was no available space. The disnlay of machinery altogether would bo far and away the largest they bad ever Jpad.
