The Montreal Board of Trade Council .has resolved that the movement for a reciprocity treaty with' the United States should bo discontinued, on tho ground that Canada cannot afford to endanger her growing industries or have 'her natural resources oxploited for the benefit of the United States. Tho resolution adds: "Reciprocity would inevitably tend to slacken the ties binding Canada and the Motherland." ENGLISH PARTY COMMENTS. London, May 12. Newspapers comment on party lines on an important memorandum issued by the Tariff Commission regarding the probable effect of Canada's tariff arrangements with Franco, Germany, and the United States. • i EAST-TO-WEST OR NORTH-TO-SOUTH? Tho Toronto correspondent of "The Times" states that tho Manufacturers' Association is preparing a draft manifesto declaring that the whole transportation, system, costing hundreds of millions of dollars, was developed for east-to-west traffic, and interest and obligation alike oppose any fiscal arrangements inimical to inter-Imperial preference.
