Hoey, of Whaugarei, will" leava Auckland for Sydney ■en route to Eng- . lland by the steamer Wimraera on Monday. ■ He has a fine record, having repr,e- ■ sented New Zealand in Australasia! events. He is a man of fine physique, • ; being 6ft. 3in. tall, and about lGst. in" weight', and is an all-round athlcto. H« will place himself under the direction of Burgess oh 'arrival in.England.;
..Another aspirant has already loft New Zealand,, in. the .person, of, Wattio Dunn, a half-caste Maori. He was.the sole 'survivor at the wreck., of. the : schooner May, off Kaipara, in 1902, : and he' owed -his' life on- that occasion' to lu's splendid swimming powjrs. Dunn was' a- successful •crinipetitor/.nt Auckland swimming sports some years ago. Hoey expects to his attempt in Augnst. '
