DAIRY PRODUCE EXPORT.
■ ■ ' riGTJEES TO DATE. - Since the opening of the-season,-on. September 1 last: 16,219 tons 'of ■ butter has been exported up to date, as against 13,013 tons for.'the same period of.last season,.an increase of 2i per cent. _ i The cheese .exports,for .the same, period, were 21,420 tons, ; as against- 16,240 tons last year, an increase of 31 per cent. In "reporting the above figures Messrs. J. B. M'Ewan and Co. state that weather conditions continue favourable, and the milk supply,at all points is considerably larger than' is usual : at-'this time of the ;'vear.
The samo firm's latest ■ cables from the British markets show that butter prices have declined 10s. to 12s. per cwt.' during the last eighteen days, and best qualities are now averaging from 110s. to 112s. Spot conditions are steady, but values are expected to decline for May shipments. The best New Zealand brands of cheese were selling at 58s. Gd. to 60s. Prospects are uncertain, but sentiment indicates a shilling or two reduction for current shipments. ■. , i'.The butter, in store'in New Zealand oifc April 30 amounted'to 32,723 boxes, of which 12,667,b0xes we're stored in Wellington. At the same .date last year there were 41,605 boxes in store, so that there is a shortage of 88S2 boxes. It is understood, however, that there is sufficient butter held in private store to. bring up the total amount to about -the 'same ; quantity''as- v that''declared ito be in store at April 30, 1909.
