MOTION BY NEW ZEALAND ALLIANCE.
At a. meeting of the executive of tho Now Zealand Alliance tho following motion was passed:—"That the executivo of tho New Zealand Alliance hereby places on record its deep sense of tho loss sustained by the Empire and tho wholo world in tho death of lung Edward VII. It gratefully recognises the deep interest his late Majesty always displayed in the
social well-being of his people; it recalls with gratification his declaration that ho regarded gambling liko intemperance as one of the greatest curses which a country could be afflicted with, and it thanks God for his successful efforts and influence in the promotion of peace amongst the nations. It joins in heartfelt sympathy with the widowed Queon Alexandra and other members of the Royal Family. The executive also tenders its hearty allegiance to King George V, and prays that Divine wisdom and grdee may be vouchsafed to him 60 that his reign may be such as shall still further promote the interests of sobriety, righteousness, and prosperity amongst all his people."

DATE OF THE FUNERAL.
The High Commissioner telegraphed to the Primq Ministor yesterday that the dat.e of King Edward's funeral had been definitely fixed for May 20.
FROM GEORGE 111 TO GEORGE V.
Sir John Logan Campbell, in a telegram to the Governor, says:—"lt is given to me who lived in the reign of George HI, to now approach the Throne, and as a devoted and humble subject to bend the knee to Their Most Gracious Majesties King George V. and Queen Mary."
NO HOLIDAY FOR EMPIRE DAY
There will be no holiday' or celebration of Empire Day on May 24 this year. The anniversary of the King's birthday on June 3 will be observed as a holiday.
MILITARY OBSERVANCES,
A District Order, issued yesterday by Lieutenant-Colonel A. Bauchop, C.M.G. (Officer Commanding District), states that in connection with the memorial services to bo held in the various churches on Sunday next, there will be no official garrison church parade, but that members of the forces, singly, in detachments, or as. company units, may, if they desire, attend church in full dress uniform (side arms only). On the day of the . Royal Funeral (May 20), a full military church parade will bo ordered. The details as to the hour, place, and point of assembly have still to be considered.
The order with reference to officers of the Permanent Force and ■ Permanent Staff wearing uniform when on duty during office hours has been cancelled as from yesterday afternoon. Officers may now appear in mufti.
BOY SCOUTS.
About 150 Boy Scouts, representing the various city and suburban patrols, assembled at the T.M.C.A. Hall last evening, in charge of their ecoutmasters, when a memorial service in honour of his late Majesty the King was held. Addresses wero given by Mr. H. N. Holmes {general secretary of the Y.M.C.A.), Lieutenant-Commander H. N. MT/eod, and several of the scoutmasters, whilo a number of hymns were also sung. A resolution of sympathy was carried, all present standing, conveying the heartfelt .sympathy of the gathering with her Majesty and the Eoyal Family in the great loss which they have suffered. Lieut.-Colonel Cossgrove, V.D., Dominion Chief Scout, has issued the following funeral order:—"All scout officers throughout the Dominion are requested to wear the usual mourning band on the left arm, and all scouts a crape-covered button on the left breast above the jacket when in uniform, until further notice. On Sunday, May 15, and for the day of the funeral, a solemn church parade should bo held. All flags should bo surmounted by a black streamer, and all staves should have a black ribbon tied one foot from the top."

It is understood that the New Zealand Shopkeepers' Association will request its members to close their shops for the whole of Friday' week—the day of the late King's., funeral.
The opening concert in connection with the Wellington Orphans' Club has been postponed from May 21 to June 4 out: of respect for the late King.
The Management Committee of the Wellington Eugby Football Union last evening passed a resolution of sorrow at the death! of King Edward. A message is to be sent to the Prime Minister notifying him of their sense of the nation's loss. *
