Referring to the statement .that the Duke of Connaught (the late ' King's brother) will visit South Africa (in place of the Prince of Wales, now King) to open the first Parliament o£ the Union of South Africa, the "Daily Express" says that'affqv his proposed visit to South Africa'. tho Duko of Connaught is likely to succeed Earl Grey as Governor-General of Canada. This would be in accordance 'with King Edward's particular wish. It w;on!d also be tho appointment for the first time in history of 'a Prince oil tlio - Blood Royal as. Governor of \oneof the overseas Dominions, and, iis such, would be a new link in the powerful chain binding tho .colonies closer to the Motherland. The newspapers at the Cape suggest that, if.'the Duke of Connaught opens the Union Parliament, the Heir-Apparent (young Prince Edward) should accompany him. A Iteuter. message says that the Indians in tile Transvaal manifested sincere grief at the- death of the King.
