LIVE STOCK SALES.
Messrs. Dalgety and Co., Ltd. (Wanganui branch; report, as follows:—We held our fortnightly Wanganui sale on May 4. when we yarded 4200 sheep and 300 head of cattle. The bulk of the sheep yarded consisted of lines of four and Bix-tooth wethers, for which thei-o was a fair demand, though high reserves on some line? hampered business. Lambs wore in good demand, one lino of wether lambs making 9s. 9d. Kv.'gs were dull of sale. Oattle were keenly sought after, the top price of the day being realised for a pen of well grown fat and forward four and five-year bullocks, on account of Messrs. Harrison Bros., which made £7 6s. under the hammer. On May 5, we held a clearing sale of Mr. S. Beauchamp's dairy herd. There was a good attendance of buyers, and for tho best of the herd bidding was animated. At waverley, on May 6, wo had a small yarding of sheep and a fair yarding of cattle. The demand for all classcs was good, aud with the exception of one small pen we effected a total clearance. We quote:—At Wanganui—Sheep: Fat ewes, lis. lid.; fat lamba, lis.; fat and forward wethers, 14s. 9d.j two-tooth wethers, 12s. 7d.; store wethers, lis.; two-tooth owes, in lamb {small), Us. 6d.; full-mouth ewes, in lamb, 9s. Gd. to 10s.; full-mouth empty ewes, 4s. 6d., 6s. 3d., to 75.; mixed lambs, 7s. to 9s. 4d.; wether lambs, 9d. 9d.; Southdown cross lambs, Bs. sd. Cattle: Fat and forward bullocks, £7 65.; two and a half to three-year eteers, £4 lis.' to £4 155.; two and a half-year steers, £4 Bs.; 18-month steers, £3 ss. to £3 103.; Btoro cows, £5 to £3 lis.; light fat cows, £4 75.; empty heifers, £3 45.; heifers, in calf, £3 6s. 6d.; do., good, £4 3s. 6d.; dairy cows, £4 17s. 6d. to £6 to £7 10s.; mixed wcaners, Z2s. 6d. to 335. . At Waverley—Store ewes, 7s. 4d.; light fat cows, £4 155.; forward cowa, £3 15a. to £4 Os.s cows, in calf, £3 17s. 6d.; cows in milk, £5 2s. 6d. to £5 55.; forward threo and a, half to four-year bullocks, £5 17s. 6d. to £5 "18s. fid. 5 heifers in calf, £3 155.„ £4, to £4 165.; weaners, small, lis., 165., to £1. At Mr. Beauchamp's clearing sale wo sold (without reserve) 43 cows, chicfly sccond and third calvers, the range of prices for this class being from £5 10b. to £10 2s. 6d. Other sorts mado from £3 15s. to £6 10s., the'average price for the whole lino being £6 Is. 6d. Draught horses sold as follows:—Five-year gelding, broken to all work, £21 10s.: five-year gelding, £20; light draught gelding, £15 l 2s. 6d.; aged draught mare, £11; draught foal, £11 ss.
