" Tho Prime Minister has advised Mr. G. L. Stewart, secretary of the "Wellington Education Board, that he has advised each school committee throughout-. .the--Dominion - to close. to-day (Tuesday) and on the day of the funeral. So far the day of-the funeral is unknown, but in the course of his message..the Prime Minister stated-that itwould probably take "place on Saturday next. In the case of backrcountry schools difficult to communicate with in time for to-day's closing, he is requesting that school should be suspended for two days at the time of the funeral. On account of the death of the King the Wednesday . Football Association has postponed all matches fixed for tomorrow. 1 The City Council offices will all be closed to-day. No committee meetings of the council will bo held this weekj and there will be no organ recital next Saturday. . At tho parade of the Wellington Corps of the St. John Ambulance Brigado, held last night, the following resolution was passed, all present standing:— "That the Wellington Corps of tho St. John Ambulance Brigade desires to place on record .its profound regret at the death of, our Sovereign, King Edward VII." ' MINISTERS TO BE RE-SWORN. Owing to the death of the late King all Ministers will be required to bo resworn. This, it will be remembered, was done on tho occasion of the death of her Majesty Queen Victoria. Several of the Maori chiels in the neighbourhood of Rotorua called to-day -upon the Hon. Tlios. "Mackenzie (who is now at Rotorua)' as representing the .Government,-and expressed their great sorrow at the loss the Empire has sustained by tho death of King Edward. They were now, they said, as orphans without tho guiding hand of th'eir father, and as forlorn '■ children tho Maoris joined with. their Pakeha brethren in mourning their great loss. The Mayor and councillors will then .return to the Council Chamber, where .the Mayor will read the Proclamation. • Upon the day of the funeral of King Edward, all trains in the Dominion will' be stopped for a quarter of an hour at a time yet' to be fixed. A start was made yesterday in connection with the draping of the public buildings. , At the Government Buildings internal as well as external draping is being done on an extensive scale. It. is announced that the Government Buildings will be closed to-day, and also on the day of the ,funeral. Officers of the Government have been enjoined to wear mourning.
