The Otago Bar, practically; as a whole (it was the largest_ assemblage of-the profession seen in court'; since the opening day of the present law buildings), rose and stood to" at« tention, whilst Mr. Justice Williams, who was accompanied by Mr. Justice Sim, spoke 1 a few sentences. '• Mr Justice Williams spoke as followß: — "It is fitting that wo, who admim ister the King's Justice, and you who assist in its administration, should meet together on this sad occasion fof the purpose of expressing the profound sorrow which we feel at the loss which the Empire has sustained. This is not a time for many words. We have lost a great Sovereign; he was great because of his goodness, and because of his wisdom. In few men have thesa great qualities of goodness and wisdom' been so fully combined. His loss' will be felt, not only by millions over whom; the Union Jack wave's as the emblem of Imperial unity, but by the whole w6rld. Edward VTI is dead; we are under a new King, and the future is with God. It behoves us now to say, not with the shout of triumph, not with the voice of acclamation, but with heartfelt fervour, 'God save tha King.'" Mr. John Macgregor said:—"lt be* hoves me merely to say that we echoi the words in which you have so appro priatcly expressed the sorrow of thd people for the loss of a great and our sense of the very _ great loa< that has overtaken the Empire."* The 'Courts then adjourned.
