The Earl and Countess of Aberdeen, whoso son, the Hon Archibald Gordon, died in "Winchester Hospital after a motor accident, liavo offered to provide an ambulance for the hospital, assist in tho erection of a building for its accommodation, and to redecorate tho nurses' sick room, as a token of their grateful acknowledgement of the kindness, skill, and devotion bestowed upon their son whilo in the hospital. About 8000 men hod already applied for places in his forthcoming Antarctic expedition, said Captain Scott, at a farewell dinner at tho Hotel Cecil. Things were going on very well with the ship, which was in the London Docks, but he was still .£SOOO short of the sum fequiral for the expedition.
