Further details are to hand of the earthquake at C'artago (not Coreago, as at first reported) a town in tho Central American Republic of. Costa Rica. (It was stated in last issue that tho.town had been destroyed, and that about 500' people had been killed.) ' When the houses were crumbling, the inmates rushed into the streets. Already 350 bodies have been recovered from the ruins. Thieves and murderers escaped from the gaols, aud started plundering,-thus increasing the general .terror.' Martial law has been proclaimed. ' Two hours after the earthquake an immoiiso meteor crossed the Niearaguaii frontier, leaving a luminous track behind, and augmenting the fears of the populace. The injured who have been rescued were conveyed to San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica. . ' . Mr. Andrew Carnegie's Peace Palace was demolished by tho earthquake.
