HUTT AND PETONE NEWS.

The annual gmoke concert of the Petone branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants was held last evening in the Oddfellows' Hall, ketone. Mr. R. Moore, president of the Petone branch, occupied the chair. There was a large attendance, among those present being Messrs. T. M. Wilford, M.P., D. M'Laren, M.P., W. Veitch, general president of the A.S.R.S. of New Zealand, J. Mack, general secretary, and members of the Executive Council! The principal toasts honoured were: "Parliament," proposed by Mr. M'Donald, responded to by Mr. D. M'Laren, M.P.; "A.5.R.5.," proposed by the president and responded to by Mr. Taylor, secretary of the local branch. HORTICULTURAL. A meeting of the Hutt Valley Horticultural Society will be held in the Hutt Town Hall buildings next Tuesday night, when Mr. W. Jolliffe will deliver a lecture on New . Zealand ferns. : COURT OASES. At the Petone Police Court yesterday morning, before Messrs. Inglis and Caverhill, J.P.'b, Lionel Upton, for boarding a train whilst in motion, was fined 10s., with costs 7s. On„a charge of being drunk and disorderly, "Richard Coutts was fined 55., and 7s. costs. Robert Kerr, for 1 depositing offensive matter on the footpath, was ordered to pay, costs 75.. The ■■ borough inspector proceeded against Richard Pratt for al-' lowing cattle to wander. The Bench ordered defendant to pay courh costs 9s. William Allen, for drunkenness, was convicted and ordered to come np for sentence when called upon. For a similar offence, Arthur Edmunds was convicted and discharged. Elizabeth Hansen was charged with the theft of £1 ss. lid. from George Martin. A conviction was entered against accused, and she was ordered to come up for sentence when called upon. For riding bicycles without lights after sunset, two ladies were ordered to pay 2s. 6d. each. Five prohibition orders issued.
SOCIAL EVENING. A vary pleasant "social" was heldlast evening in the Victoria Street Hall, Petone, under the auspices of St: Augustine's Young Ladies': Bible Class. During the evening the local Boy Scouts, under Scoutmaster Brear, gave an interesting display- of first aid work. Songs were given by Misses Cometti, CoTlett, Bradock, Babbington, and Messrs. Wiseman, Heron, M'Ewah, and Mason. Mr. Rodgers gave a mirthprovoking turn of conjuring. Supper was provided by the ladies. - SCHOOL FOOTBALL. On the Petone Recreation Ground, yesterday Hutt B defeated Petone West by 31 points to nil. For the winners, Lockett scored seven tries and Burt two. Webloy converted two of the tries. On the Hutt ground yesterday the local School's A team defeated Petone Main by 17 points to nil. Tries for Hutt were obtained by Lawton (4) and Dennehy (1). also converted a try.
