St. Patrick's Day was celebrated in Loudon this year in tho customary fashion. Sprigs of shamrock were worn by largo numbers, and at Aldershpt the Irish Guards, as usual, paraded in review order to receive the shamrock sent down by the Queen. In Ireland St. Patrick's Day was observed as a bank holiday; there were services in all the churches, and a special feature of many was a sermon in tho Irish language. An exhibition and salo of the Irish Industries Association was opened at Grosvcnor Houso and visited by tho Princess of Wales. In tho evening there wero a numbor of Irish conccrts, and among the festivities which took place was tho annual dinner of the Benevolent Society of St.. Patrick, which rclioves tho poor Irish resident in London, and educates their children, at Prince's Galleries. Pieces of tamarisk timber still perfectly sound have been found in 4000-yeax-old Egyptian ruins.
