Pnm « Minister returned from Wyndham to Invercargill last night, this afternoon he will go to 'the Bluff, where he will spend the week-end. After a quiet day at Invercargill on Monday ho will go to Lawrence and on to Dunedin on Wednesday. He will visit Cbristchurch on Friday, and on Saturday will go to Hokitika.—Press Association. Mr. Justice Cooper left for Chriskchurch last evening. Dr. Anson left by the Ulimaroa yesterday for Sydney, where he will attend a conference of the chief medical officers of the A.M.P. Society. He will return about May .19. Mr. Blow, Under-Secretary for Public Works, left on a visit to Australia yesterday. For some five or six mouths he has not been enjoying the best of health, and the Government have granted him a month's holidaying prior to the session. After visiting Sydney and Newcastle, Mr. Blow will proceed to Brisbano and then on to Rockhampton. He may possibly attend the conference of the Australasian Institute of Mining Engineers at Brisbane towards tha end of the mouth.
Mr. A. H. Barnett was yesterday admitted, by Mr. Justice Cooper, as a barrister of the Supreme Court, he having practised as a solicitor for a period of five years. Mr. M. Myers appeared on the applicant's behalf.. Mr. Ernest Peterson Hay, who is a membe rof the legal staff of the Publics Trust Office, was yesterday admitted, by Mr. Justice Cooper, to practise as a solicitor. Mr. J. W. M'Donald, solicitor for the Public Trust Office, made the application. Dr. A. H. P. Crosby, of the Mount View Mental Hospital, and Mrs. Crosby, left for Sydney by the ' Ulimaroa yesterday en route' to London. Mr. S. J. Anderson, of the staff ol Abbott, Oram, and Co.,'left on, a trip to England yesterday. Mr. L.- G. Reid, of tie Crown Law Office, who is about to fill the vacancy, in. the Magistracy occasioned by the retirement of Mr. Turnbull, S.M., occupied a seat on the bench. at the S.M. Court with Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M.,' during 'part of yesterday morning's sitting. . Mr. J. R. Kirk, solicitor, of Gisborae, was yesterday morning sworn, in. before Ms Honour the Chief Justice as a Notary Publio. At a meeting of the Christchtn-ch. police last night, it was decided to sunport the candidature of Inspector Elßsqn for' the Police Superannuation Board.—Press Association.
Mr. Fred, Rutledge, who las been on the staff of The Dominion since its inception, .severed his connection with tha paper yesterday to take up new duties with the Railway Department at Greymouth. A presentation was made, when occasion was taken to express regret at Mr. Rutledge's departure and emphasis given to the painstaking and thorough manner in which he had always discharged his duties.
At a meeting of the Invercargill City Council last night Mr. Scott Symington, at present engineer to the Christchurch Tramway Board, was appointed electrical engineer and manager for Invercargill tramways at a salary of £1000 a year for three years. Mr. Symington was selected from among seventeen applicants.—Press Association.
