LOSS OF THE SATARA.
CAPTAIN AND PU.OI. SQSEENSIQN OF THB ICffiltEE'S CERTIHCAIE. By Tderraph-Prete AesorfsMoß-flopTTirht (Kcc. May 5, 9.35 p.m.) Sydney, May 5. The Murine Court,, presided over by Judge Backhouse, which inquired into tho loss, on April 20, off Seal Hocks, of the liritish India Steam Navigation Company's steamer Satara (5272 tons), has suspended the certificate of the master, Captain Hugill, for six months. Tho suspension dates from the day d the wreck.
In the course of the judgment, the President referred to the fact that the Satara, which had just left Newcastle en route to Singapore and India via Torres Straits, had been handed over ( to the TorTes Strait pilot prior to striking near the Seal Rock (which is some distance north of Newcastle). The President said that the custom under which vessels bound via Torres Straits were handed over to the charge of the pilot directly they left port was justified neither by law nor good navigation.
