FRUIT SHOP BURNT.
LAMP LEFT TO RIPEN APPLES. (By Telegraph— Frees A.ssoclatlon.l ' Dunedin, May 3. A two-story building, used as. shops and residenco, in King Edward Street, South Dunedin, was totally destroyed by fire at an early- hour this morning. i The fire was caused by the explosion of a lamp left in a fruit shop to . ripon apples. The occupant of the fruit shop and dwelling was James Young, who, with his family, was rescued from a dangerous position by Constable M'Cartney. Young was,- insured for £100 in the Phoenix office. The other occupant, Gore, a photographer, was insured for fBloO in tne Guardian office. The building, owned by Mr. W. Gray, was insured for <£650. in the Standard.
