COTTON TRADE. MEN RESIST WAGE-REDUCTION. By Tcloffraph—Prerts Association—Copyright (Rec. May 3, 11.5 p.m.) London, May 3. A joint conference of Manchester cotton operatives asked that tho masters' demand for a 5 per cent, reduction in wages be postponed for a year, the operatives undertaking not to apply for an advance in wages. The masters made a counter-offer which the operatives have declined. It is expected that the masters will issue a month's notice of a lock-out unless the wage-reduction is accopted.

OTHER TROUBLES. London, May. 2. Notice has been given that' the South Wales anthracite collieries will terminate their contracts on May 31. In the event of a stoppage of work, 16,000 persons will bo rendered idle. Enginemon and stokers are demanding advanced rates of pay and better conditions.
