UTrtm Our Bpecial Corceapondcato.l ';9 ; " CARTERTON. It seems somewhat strange that in a progressive township such as Carterton the municipal authorities do not take steps to enforce a dog registration law. At present there are no regulations in force concerning the keeping of dogs, and consequently there are numbers of useless canines prowling about the footpaths. From a health point of view, or any_ other, these can scarcely be deemed desirable. • i The ,Wairarapa South County Council will be represented at the County ; Con- ( ference by Air, T. Y. Moore. WOODVtLLE. A football match was played on the Woodville recreation ground on Saturday last, between the lua Ora's team (Palmer- 1 ston North), and the local seniors, and was won by the visitors by 11.points to nil. The metalling contract on the Ballance Road is now completed. The improved state of the road should be of {jrcat advantage to Ballance and Mangahoe settlers this winter. Diphtheria is still making its presence felt here, another, case having been reported. OTAKI. Owing to a horse taking fright on Saturday a grocer's outrider was thrown on the road, the wheel grazing-him as the animal careered to its stables, fortunately the lad escaped without injury. It is probable that Leger, of Levin, and Mr. Lucking, of Wellington, will take up poultry-farming here at an early date, the former having secured Mr. Stinson's property, and the latter some land belonging to Mr. Byron Brown. Members of the Wellington District Hospital Board paid a visit to the Hospital on Saturday, and made a general inspection. They were accompanied by j Dr. Smith. .
Constable Satherley leases Otatt to-day for the Wellington Hospital for medical attention. He expects to return to Ms duty about the end of the month. Miss Hilma Bright has been appointed matron of the Karori Home, and left yesterday to take up duty. The Ngatiawa Rifle Clnb held a competition on Saturday for the Elder Cup, the conditions being seven shots at 200, 500, and 600 yards. Ten men competed, and the average for each worked out at BSi points. Eifleman Haine was top score with 97, Eifleman G. A. Monk 9G, and Eifleman Stubbings 95. Mrs. F. W.
