Mills, Managing Director of the Union Company, interviewed the new Postmaster-General (Mr. J. Thomas) with reference to the extension- of the Austra-lian-Canadian mail contract. : .

Sir Jas. Mills suggested that the Union Company should be allowed to substitute a steamer not so large or fast as.one of thoso at present employed. Tho Canadian Postmaster-General (Mr. Lomieux) Bad objected to this proposal. Sir Jas. Mills added that ho intended to visit Canada shortly and to interview tho Canadian Postmaster-Goneral at Ottawa.

' Mr. Thomas promised consideration of tho proposal, and said that'if Canada's consent was obtained he would agree.
