A meeting of the Hutt Park Committee was held last evening in the Hutt Ccubt eil Chambers. ■ Present: Councillors Bald-, win (chairman), Purser (hon. secretary), Southgate, M'Caskill, and Bartow. Mr. J. Leatham, caretaker,' was also present A letter was received from Mr. Atkinson requesting- the use of two groundj for tho Petone Hockey Club. The chairman, explained that at present hockey and golf were played on the grounds, bur the hockey games were unauthorised. H« also understood that golf players objected to hockey being played so close., to. the links. ' A discussion then took, place as to the expense of removing a shed now on the ground—this with a view, to accommodating the Petono Hockey Ctab. Eventually it was decided, on Councillor Southgate's motion, to fill in a certain hollow and allow the Petone Hockey Club to have the use of the grounds' for the «ason for £2. 2s. . * ■ . . _ The caretaker reported that several persons had horses training oh the grounds without permits, and asked for instructions concerning same. The chairman moved that tho owner3.be notified that unless permits were obtained within seven days legal proceedings, .would be taken. This was agreed to. The financial statement; for the month showed a credit balance of J539 11s. 10d., the receipts being £75 2s. 103., and expenditure .£35 11s. 10d. The liabilities were.—Kent. to. Mr. Nathan,.. £17 IDs.; Stafford and Treadwill, .£l6 lGs. Gd.; rates, 403 55.; total, JJI27 lls. 6d. ..V": . The chairman moved that .£lO be paid off'the rent account. "As for the rates," he remarked, "we had better sue 'ourselves for them." (Laughter.) Carried. ' CopneiUbr Southgate moved, that the secretary he granted £h ss. for his untiring services., He only wished that the amount could. be made greater,, but the committee's finances would not allow any further increase." Cudby, J.P., yesterday morning On a charge of drunkenness, Benjamin Mudgway, jun., was conyicted- ; aiid; discharged. .- Mr. W. B. Bray, (apiaries' inspector) brought charges against James Liddle, William Patterson, and-William Hughes, for breaches of the Apiaries Act, 1900. Defendants in each, case were fined 10s., with 7s. costs.. . '.•■ Judgment by default was ..entered in the following civil cases:—Hutt Borousb. Council v. ' The fortnightly meeting of the U.A.O.D. Lodge, Petone Branch, was held last .evening. After the ordinary business had been concluded, a "ladies' night" was held. The piece-de-resistance in tho prev gramme was a progressive euchre, tournament; a musical programme being- alse added. Dancing was subsequently indulged in till midnight, altogether a very enjoyable evening was spent. The prize winners in tho euchro party were Miss Wakelin, Mr. Southgate, and Mis* Scrimshaw.''.. . ..-'".
