The exigencies of education in the backblocks have received another illustration in a letter just received by the Wanganui Education Board from the chairman of the Horopito School Committee, stating that , the- hall, in which the school is being held, baa been sold, and is to be converted into a : billiard saloon. The new saloon-keeper also writes informing the''board "that he will permit the children to use part of the building, and undertakes not to allow billiards to be played during school hours, on one condition only—that the erection of the new school be proceeded with immediately. He added significantly: "If there is any further delay, out you go." The board has decided to impress on tho Department the necessity for the immediate erection of a school.
