The above illustration gives the'relative course of the comet and the earth from May 15, 1909, to July 29, ,1910. It should be noted that tho points in the diagram i where it enters and leaves the earth's orbit are not its nearest approaches to the earth, although they appear to be so.' t The comet's position on May 10, shown in the diagram, is the point where it is nearest the earth. The distance given is 10,000,000 miles, which, if the prediction is correct, will mean that it will not approach, within 5,000,000 miles as close this visit as on the visit of 1835. _
