The only Minister of the Crown at prosonfc away from Wellington is the Hon. T. Mackenzie, who is in the North Auckland district.
The Primo Minister (Sir Joseph' Ward) leaves for the south to-night. He will be present at the installation of the Mayor of Invercargill on Wednesday, and will doliver a policy speech at Winton on Thursday. Bishop Mules, of Nelson, is at presont on a visit to Christchurch. —• "l'ress." Mr. Robert M'Nab booked his passago to return to New Zealaud by the Huahino, which loft 'England on April 14. Mi. Bennett, of the engineering firm of Alder, Mackay, and Co., of Edinburgh, Scotland, who is touring the world, is at present on a visit to Wellington. Mr. E. J. Harrison, manager for Router's Telegraph Company, Ltd., leaves on a trip to England "next week. Daring his absence the managerial duties will be assumed by Mr. Baker, formerly of the Wellington office, but who, has been in England for six years past. ' Colonel Bauchop, Officer Commanding the District, will offer 110 opposition to the transference of Capt. W. H. Morton (city engineer) from the district staff to the Wellington Naval Artillery Volunteers, vice Capt. Sommerville resigned. Capt. Morton's new appointment will be gazetted sometime this month.
Mr. Robert E. Wood has tendered his resignation as manager of the local branch of Messrs. Kempthorne, Prosser, and Co., Ltd., a position he has held for nine years past. Mr. Wood, who has been connected with the company for some 30 years, intends to enter into business on his own account, and as soon as he is released from his present duties he intends to leave on a visit to England and the Continent.
The EUwood trio of musician s ; and Miss Winnie Nixon, the gifted singer, who iB to'assist at their concerts in Wellinrfon, arrived from the south yesterday. They are to be given an "at home" by Mrs. John Prouse, of Clifton Terrace, this afternoon.
The funeral of the late Mrs. J. J. Bod en Blabemore took place yesterday afternoon, the place of interment being Karori cemetery. The burial service was conducted by the Bev. A. L. Hansell. The pall-bearers were: Messrs. Kinnear, Broadbelt, and Macintyre (of The Dominion staff), and Mr. Burns. Wreaths were sent by The Dominion proprietary, by the combined staffs, and by the mechanical staff of The Dominion. There were a number of wreaths, also telegrams, of condolence, from personal friends in the , Wairarapa (where the late Mrs. Blakemore was well known), and elsewhere.
