DAN PATCH BREAKS A RECORD.

Keen interest was taken at the meeting of the Auckland Trotting Club yesterday in Dan Patch's attempt to beat his owii Australian mile record of 2min. lOsec. This he did, covering the distance in 2min. 9 2-sse;. The time is two-fifths of a second outside the Australasian record put up by Ribbonwood on a clay track, banked at the turns, at Christchurch. Dan Patch's time constitutes a world's, record for a grass track. ' He was timed to trot his first quarter in 31 2-ssec., the half-mile in lmin. 3 2-ssec., the three-quarters in lmin. 36sec., and the mi!o in 2min. 9 2-ssec. The champion is a New Zea-land-bred horse, hairing been reared in Canterbury.
