WOOL-CLASSING AGAIN.
INTERESTING LETTER. ; . At' Friday night's .meeting .of the Wellington Technical' Education Board tho following letter from Messrs. Levin and Co., Ltd. r to the-director of the Palnierston North Technical Ejchool, was road:— '
"Dear sir, —At bur wool salcj held on January 8,-we-offered the -wool classed Jjy your students with, the following results:—..
Lot 127—2. bales superfine combing A .! ~.. 10d. Lot ■ 123 —2 bales super crossbred B '..... Lot. 129 —2-bales: super 'crossbred , ■ v coar'se'C BJd.
Lot 130 —3 bales pieces ' 4|d. "The wool was.well clasfed, and attracted considerable attention from the trade, and the opinion was freely expressed that the-step taken by the.Palmerston North Technical School was in the right direction. Many farmers in your district and elsewhere do not class at all, and fleeces of all descriptions are baled . together, with the result that wool-buyers in many instances have to buy on a lower value than the wool really warrants.
. "If the farmers had a general knowledge, as to .the quality or, fineness of wool staples so that fleeces 'of different grades could be kept apart, and, 'at the same time, know- to what extent "a fleece should be skirted without overdofhg it, this would be practically all that: is, necessary. .It should not -be a difficult matter, for.- a", school, situated as yours is, to impart this knowledge .to farmers and .the" sons' of ..farmers, so that on most' farms there would be someone who, could undertake .classing and' skirting during shearing."
r There were twenty students at the opening 'of' the : Xauiape wool-classing classes. The farmers :'in attendance were so well pleased with the lesson they received from 'Mr; Cahill that it is. anticipated., the.,class will, soon grow •to-*a cefrlc&ity. H''
