Henry James Hansen was charged yesterday with the attempted muraer of his son Arthur at Ngunguru on April 15. The hearing lasted till a late hour last night. Accused pleaded not guilty, reserved his defence, and was committed to the Supreme Court for-trial. No bail was asked for. The son, who was shot in the groin by his father, said in evidence that he crawled under the bed after being shot. H3s father observed him there, and remarked, "Oh, you're there, are you? Say your prayers now, old man, you're dying. You're the man that iB going to take your mother and brothers • away. You won't take them where yottia going." TREATMENT OF INFAHT& Dunedftt, April 2Z. \ SCHOONER PILED UP. Gisborne, April 26. The sea, which was the heaviest far years, is now moderating somewhat alons the Bast Coast. At Tokomaru Bay ths' Farmers' Company's launch was smashed to pieces. The schooner Oreti was lying at anchor in the. Cove, and when thd storm came ,on both anchors began to drag. The cables parted, and CaptainBarnes beached, the vessel. The schooner ran high up on the beach, and the crew' was able to step ashore. Herbert Budge Thornton Shearman', was recently brought back 'here from Auckland and charged with wife desertion, theft, and obtaining money by false pretences. He was brought before the Court today, and pleaded guilty .to- two charges of false .pretences. He was remanded till Thursday on the other charges. BETTING AT A'SHOW. Hokitika, April 26. AUCKLAND TRAM DIVIDEND. ' Auckland, April 25. The general manager of the Auckland electric trams has advised the directors' to recommend a dividend of sis per cent, per annum, on ordinary shares, to sot aside .£15,000 for depreciation, ,£11,500 to reserve, and ,£3541 to be carried forward. The dividend will be the final one for the year. ■ NGAURUHOE ACTIVE. Auckland, April 25. The Taumarunui correspondent of the "Herald" reports that Ngauruhoo appears to be active. Great of dark smoke are being emitted at intervals from its crater.MAHARAHARA COPPER MINES. Woodville, April 25. The Auckland syndicate that has had' possession of- tho Maharahara copper mines for the past three years are apparently giving up possession, for they are selling all their tools and buildings on the property this week.
