ALLEGED GARROTTING.
-- t IN CUBA STREET. A case of alleged garrotting m the heart of the city occupied the attention of the detective force yesterday., and two men, described as labourers, were arrested lost evening by Detectives Hammond and Cameron, on suspicion of having been concerned. It is- stated that i stableman named Geo. M'Alister, employed at the Nag's Head Stables, Cuba Street, went out into the stable yard at about V o'clock on Tuesday evening, -when two men suddenly pounced on him, and/ demanded 6d. M'Alister declined to give them the money, wheieupon one of the men is' alleged to have grasped him by the throat, whilst the other searched his pockets. The assailants found no money, but in their hurry they overlooked a small cash deposit wluch M'Alister had in one of his pockets. Whilst he was held by the throat by the one man, the second pressed' has knee hard on Mm. At length two'citizens oame to the assistance of the man in distress, and on their appearance the _ alleged garrotters disappeared. M'Alister was found to be hleeding from the nose, and was half choked when the. rescuers came on the soene. The police were informed of the occurrence, and as a result of their investigations Detectivee Cameron and Hammond made the above arrest yesterday. ' " The two accused will appear at the Magistrate's Court this morning, when ■ they will be charged with assaulting M'Alister with intent to rob him. The police will ask for a remand till Wednesday next.
