The results of the polling for the ■Mayoral election in the Miramar Borough gave Mr. John Brodie a majority of 49 over his opponent, Mr. Frederic Townsend. Councillor Brodie in order to- contest the Mayoralty, the election resulted in the return of Mr. H. E. Richards by a majority of 37 votes over his opponent, Mr. .0.. S. Wellington ......... 227 210 Worser Bay ....... 82 63 Miramar 92 „ 91 ; ""Total 401 364 The new Mayor of Miramar, Mr. John Brodie, is a member of the firm of Brodie and Walker, indent agents, well known in the city. He has been 'a member of the Miramar. _Borough Council for six years, and is highly respected in the district. Mr. Richards, the new 'councillor, is an old resident of the district, and was formerly a member of the council. , LOWER HUTT. The .result' of the Lower Hutt Mayoral election was ,made known' at 7.30 o'clock by the .returning officer, Mr. ' P. R. Purser, a couple of hundred ratepayers having assembled outside tho Town Hall to. learn the final figures as early as possible. Polling had been brisk all day, and out of about 2000 ratepayers on'the '• municipal roll, 1149 cast a vote in favour of one or other of tho candidates. ■ -<

When the figures'were announced, Mr. Russell came 'forward on the balcony of the Town Hall Buildings, and thanked the doctors who had voted for him. He said that he had put up the best fight he could. He had increased his poll of last year bj; 160, and he had brought down his opponent's figures. He considered that , this cpuld be regarded as a creditable performance. ~ Perhaps on a future occasion he would ask the electors to put up a fight for him in another Mayoral contest. , He wished tho Mayor good luck in anything for the' good of . the borough', which he might bring forward, during his term of office.

At ' Mr. Russell's suggestion, three cheers were given' for Mr. Bunny. . Mr. Bunny said that he desired to thank the electors of tho borough, on behalf of Mrs. Bunny and himself for having elected him. to the Mayoral office for another term. He wished especially to thank those ratepayers who. had come from a long distance for the purpose of casting their votes in his favour, and also his committee, who had worked assiduously in- his behalf. Ho would endeav.wr to deserve the confidence which thei ratepayers had again placed in him, and he hoped that they would not regret having returned him as Mayor. . .. ■ Following are particulars of the voting:—

Mr. Bunny,-who haa been once more returned as Mayor of the Hutt, has as close an acquaintance with the municipal affairs of his borough as any man

in the district. He was Major of Hutt in -Hie early days of the borough's existence, and even when he stood down through pressure on his time ho kept in close touch with tie affairs of the district in Which he had resided for bo many years. He was successful in tho-contest against Mr. W. H. Russell last year, and once more he has defeated that gentleman at the poll. Mr. Bunny is tho senior partner in the legal firm of Bunny and Ayson, of W-eDington. His wife was a Miss Cimino, a member of one of tho oldest Wellington fam-,-ilies.
