[On June 18,1909, the Norwegian barque Errol struck" on Middleton Reef. When the Tofua arrived on July 12, only five men survived out of a complement of 22 souls. The captain, his wife, and four little children were those starved to death. The Shipwreck Relief and Humane Society presented Captain Holford with a pair of binoculars, in recognition 6f his towards the survivors.]
