MIRAMAR COUNCIL ELECTION.
Speaking at Scatoun last night, JJe. ' H. E. Eichards,,.a., candidate : for -the vacant seat in the council, expressed his , surprise at the attitude of his opponent ' in continuing to advocate the curtailment of the tram service in the' face of Mr.' - Stuart Eichardson's • letters to the borough council,'stating that the change ' could only result in the-mileage rate, being increased by 50 or 100 per cent. He - also twitted his opponent- with, havinc. \ shelved his original policy of increased', fares and. substituted curtailment of ser-;. vice. In reply to a rumour that he intended, challenging electors having-.a resi-,. dential qualification, Mr. Eichards gave it on emphatic denial, saying that, he• did not wish to defeat his .opponent by; any methods which .would not. redound to his'credit. 'At the same time, the .'c'aridi-/ daie was '.of..' opinion, after glancing; through.the roll of.electors, 1 that it did' need purging. He urged the necessity- of: increased supervision of roads with;such. necessary extensions as might be. sary from time to time, pointing out that whereas the Miramar roads' were nearly all constructed by the land syndicates, - there were many unformed roads in Sea-" toun.
