■'■ .FIRST GENERAL MEETING.' ■ The preliminary.general meeting.of tha, Wellington Orphans' Club was held.in. 'the-Grand' Hotel last evening,' and; »-. large number of members and intending members were present. Dr. W. Arnold Izard presided. ■ ■ v '• The club has been formed for the purpose of cultivating literary and musical' talent, and for the promotion of goodfellowship and rational ; amusement.. The : session will commence not later : , thftci May, and will continue every, fortnight ■ throughout the winter.- months. 'Open nights and ladies' nights may bo given at intervals.: The objects of the club.should appeal to those who ate either gifted musically or vocally. Already the mem- • bership! numbers'7s.
