OLD EMPLOYEES. Dunedln, April a. At a meeting of the Education BoanJ to-day the question of the retirement of certain old employees was considered. It was decided that Mr. Pryde (Becre-' tary), who had intimated' his intention of retiring on September 30, be retired on June 30, and continue on full pay until December 31, this step Dejnjj taken on account of his long service. It was also decided to retire the following headmasters: —Messrs. D. Mn> ray (North East Valley), D. A. M'Nicofl' (George .Street), and W. J. Moore (Kensington). RAILWAY PORTER CHARGED. Dunedln, April ZL Albert Whitmore Chirnside, railway porter, was charged in the "Magistrate's Court this morning with stealing a handbag containing jewellery of the value of £200, the property: of Agnes Henderson'. According to the statement of the chief detective,: the bag and jewellery were taken from a railway train in November lasti when the bag was left in the train. Yesterday a portion of the stolen property, valued at £20 45., was found in possession of the accused. A remand was: ■granted for eight days to enable inquiries to be made as to the rest of the missing jewellery.

Tests carried out yesterday proved, satisfactory to Lloyd's surveyor and the Government inspector of machinery. She will load for London here and in the south.
