London, April 20. • John William Kaiser, who,- as stated in a London cable message yesterday, attempted to, shoot his wife at a lodg-ing-houso jn Bl.oomsbury, London, and then committed suicide, was a rich resident' of Hawthorn (a suburb of Melbourne), who went Home a few months ago. In 1901 lie was divorced from his wife, and. five years later wae acquitted on a charge of. conspiracy in connection ■ with an endeavour to secure a reduction. of the alimony he had to pay his former wife. Sydney) April 21. Phillips, father of the eight-year-old girl wiose body was foun'd buried in the bush near Willoughby, with,ghastly wounds,' was charged with the murder of the girl, and pleaded not guilty. He was remanded.
