The N,apier Borough Council has received a letter from the-G-isbdrno Borough Council stating that-the latter body was favourably inclined tow'ards Mr. G. Nelson's Waikaremoana.hydroelectric scheme and urging tho Napier. Council to push on'in the..matter, by obtaining alPpossiblo' information at' the earliest possible date. . " \/■ Councillor G. ■ Nelson' remarked that the Hastings people had practically retired from tlie proposal, and were considering: a Tuki Tuki River scheme, and thus, the Waikaremoana'proposal would inflict too big a' burden on other local bodies—that was if they undertook it without the assistance of Hastings which had two ..large .freezing works' noar.it. It seemed that the scheme would fall through, .and he whether it was worth the council's while going to much trouble or expense in pursuing .inquiries. He suggested that a reply should be sent to Gisborh©' to that effect. '.■'*.:
Tho Mayor . (Mr. J. Vigor .Brown, M.P.) remarked that tie position was differont now as tho Government was putting half a million - a yean by in connection with the supply of electrical energy. He understood that the first work would bo near Christchurch, and that the electrification of tie Lyttolt-on tunnel would bo ; proceeded with. Possibly the Government would go on with' the WaLkareraoana scheme. He suggested that this information .should be forwarded to Gisborne. .: ■....,■•- -• ■ This was agreed to. ' ■
