SPORTS GROUNDS.
COUNCIL GROUNDS ON WET DAYS. Reporting to the City .Council last evening, the City Reserves Committee intimated that they had received a letter from the Wellington Lacrosse Association, asking that the fullest opportunities be allowed the sports bodies to use the council's grounds during the present season, and that the hour of decision as to whether the grounds are fit for play be extended to 3 o'clock. The committee reported that these are matters of departmental jurisdiction, and the superintendent of reserves had been instructed to use his discretion as to the fitness'of tho grounds for play.
Councillor Fitzgerald said there had been a lot of trouble about these matters in the past. On one occasion matches of all kinds were forbidden at 12 o'clock, and then at 2 o'clock it was a perfectly fino day. The matter should be placed in the hands of somo more competent authority. He moved to place-such decisions in the hands of a committee. ■
The motion was not seconded,, and the report was adopted.
